A LETTER FROM TANYA PILLAY' EMERGENCY SURGERY UPDATE
Once again, God has exceeded my expectations, blessed me far beyond what I ever thought possible, and restored my faith in humanity. I am humbled by the kindness and generosity that has been given to me in the past month.
2017 threw me curveballs that I didn't see coming, and just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, after going through some really hard and hurtful situations in my life, I was also diagnosed with a large malignant tumor.
After getting tests, check ups and a biopsy, my surgeon said that I needed urgent surgery and possible radiation. I was then told that the operation was not covered by my private health fund which meant that I would have to wait up to 12 months on the public waiting list (time that I could not afford because the specialist confirmed that it was aggressive) or pay out of my own pocket with money that I did not have.
During the same time, some other things had blown up in my life leaving me feeling pretty heartbroken. Life and death are in the power of the tongue. Whether you're a strong Christian, young Christian, old or new, words that are spoken over us can either cause us to flourish, or cause significant damage.
It was at this point where I said to God, "it's ok, it's just you and me, have your way, I trust you".
I put my name on the public hospital list and surrendered it to God hands.
God used some amazing people to turn my despair into an absolute miracle. I now understand the truth in the words 'beauty from ashes'; where God uses a broken, hopeless situation and turns it around for His good.
Before I knew it, without me having do do anything, my wonderful friends set up a gofundme campaign to raise the surgery money for me and it all happened so fast. One minute I was so stressed, seeing no light at the end of the tunnel, and the next minute everything completely turned around.
Generosity and love overflowed and donations flew in from all walks of life, from many countries, some anonymous, some from beautiful people that I have never met, and many friends, family and amazing people that I have connected with in some way.
In 3 days, the fundraiser target was smashed, and people kept on giving. I booked the surgery for 6th April 2017 and I still can't believe how fast it all happened. What an absolute miracle! My surgery was a huge success and as I write this, I still have stitches in, but I am so much better and now I'm tumor free.
This post is not just a testimony of how incredible God truly is, but also a huge thank you to every single person that supported me during this time.
Thank you for rescuing me when I felt I was drowning. I am forever grateful and changed by this chapter. I'm also an example of how God can change your life, even when you can't see a way out. His timing is perfect and He knows what He is doing. Trust Him.
