THE I.AM.LEGACY TOUR 2012: MAY 31ST - JUNE 17TH
The Commission are a collective group of artists from around Australia who use rap/hip-hop/r&b to reach out to local communities with the gospel. Founded in 2007 by Sydney rapper Genesiz, the work they have been involved in thus far is groundbreaking to say the least.
The Commission has gone from a Sydney based rap crew building a following at local events and festivals, to a national organisation based in four cities around Australia. Although known for their music, the work they do through their arm "Commission Hope" is amazing.
They began with child sponsorship, released an album to raise funds for pregnancy center's offering alternatives to abortion, and most recently, have begun to establish the Project Sixty One homeless ministry founded by Minister RMB in Sacramento, within Australia.
Amongst the group, they have some of the most popular gospel hip hop releases in Australia, with singles charting nationally, and high demand wherever they go. Their debut group album LIFE has become one of the fastest selling Australian Hip Hop releases nationally and is considered by many to be a classic album. And yet through all the success, one can't avoid being struck by how God focused their ministry is. The music is secondary. Their love for God and people is what drives them.
In April 2011, the crew embarked on the first of many tours that they will host. Inviting Sacramento native Sevin to join them, they traveled around Australia selling out venues and bringing the gospel to an audience that may not necessarily attend church. Well, they are about to do it all again in 2012.
As many know already, Sevin has felt the call of God to step away from music and begin to serve through ministry of the word and discipleship. He has already finished up performing in the USA, but he decided to keep this one last tour engagement with The Commission. Australia, this June, you have the chance to be a part of history as we farewell Sevin's musical journey, and support him as he moves into this new phase of life. Don't miss the opportunity to see him give his final offering.
Also joining Sevin and The Commission this year is Bay area rapper R.E.I.G.N. from Oakland California. R.E.I.G.N. has established herself as one of the west coasts heavy hitter MC's and goes hard for the cause. For the first time in Australia, R.E.I.G.N. will be ministering at all stops of the tour and will be a major blessing.
Not only will R.E.I.G.N. be performing, but she will also play a major role in a new facet of the tour this year. At selected stops, the tour will hold day workshops on everything from dance, to lyricism, to ministry. R.E.I.G.N. will bring her experience and passion to the table as she runs workshops specifically for the ladies with an interest in hip hop ministry.
And finally, the tour will feature Australia's own squad, The Commission. Having expanded since last year, you will have a chance to see your favourite Commission MC's as well as a whole squad of new members. The talent that they bring to the table is undeniable. The tour will also serve as the launching pad for Genesiz much anticipated second album, I AM LEGACY.
The tour in 2012 will be bigger and better than last year and feature some of Australia's best gospel hip hop artists. With so many reasons to be a part of it, why would you want to miss out?
